I am an organizational consultant, Agile coach, and facilitator. In a previous/current life, I was a composer and a writer. For 14 years, I was also a software developer, specializing in object-oriented programming, C++ and STL (and generic programming), and user interface design. I conducted research in computational sound synthesis and sonification, in the psychology of sound, and in creativity and computer interfaces, all at National Center for Computing Applications (NCSA) and Beckman Institute. My foray into group and team coaching started in the 1980's, when I worked with Werner Erhard and Associates coaching large teams and leading seminars. Throughout the 1990's I supported my independent composer/scholar status by contintuing to work with software teams, mostly in research and startup environments. I was consistently highly effective. Starting in the late 1990's I became increasingly interested in organizational development, systems thinking, and dynamic processes. I studied in a number of courses and programs--including Peter Senge, Peter Block and Tom Stone--and trained for one year in leadership coaching with Thomas Leonard. In my continuing work with software organizations I started to gradually introduce agile software processes, starting with Extreme Programming and then moving on to Scrum (I was certified as a Scrum Master in 2003). Currently, I am an independent consultant and coach; clients include Capital One, OJC Technologies, Open Wave, Liberty Mutual, JDA Software, Vignette, Dell Computer, and Beckman Institute. I am a Ph.D. student in the Human and Organizational Development program at Fielding Graduate University, where I continue to study organizational and group dynamics, human creativity, and organizational change. My rather eclectic background informs my approach to my work with organizations and people. I tend to approach organizations as integral wholes and, as such, work to help company stakeholders discover their native strengths and build increased organizational performance upon those very strengths. As a coach and trainer, I find a special fascination in discovering how I can create learning environments in which people find themselves able to move beyond personal and institutional limitations and to create for themselves deep, transformaitve learning. I believe that the most humane and effective organizational systems and processes are works of great beauty-- they are, in my view, among the highest forms of human accomplishment.
